Summer School

Big School

It is the first day at “big school”; it’s huge, so much bigger than Primary school. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of people, children and adults; they all know where they are going and what they are doing…
But I have no idea, I used to be the biggest, a big fish in my own pond, now I’m one of the littlest. I have no idea who most of these people are; my friends have all been put in different groups. I don’t know what I’m doing, where I’m going, I feel so lost.
The first day at a new school can be quite daunting for both parent and child, they’re going from being the oldest and, possibly, biggest to being one of the youngest. From a place where they know everyone, they know what is expected of them and the work that they will be doing and how to do. To a place where everything is strange the day is different, all the people are different, the lessons are in different rooms and in different subjects, even different languages!
While taster days can help with getting your bearings and meeting some of the staff in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, however, they won’t necessarily help with knowing the type of work that you will be expected to do. The jump from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 can be quite big for some and then there are CAT tests…
While I can’t really help with the tests, they are meant to be an assessment of a child’s true ability without the coaching that they might have received for SAT’s, I can help with the jump from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3.
“A Little Extra Help – Tuition” will be offering a series of classes over the Summer holiday to help students transition in Maths, English and Science, these will be one-to-one sessions to increase the students knowledge of the three core subjects. If you are interested please call 07985 617 140.
